In this episode, Matt Ison joins me to discuss some of the "pro's" and "con's" of marijuana use as it relates to performance and recovery within the realm of sport and exercise. We also discuss some of the political and societal aspects of the issue, as well as what we believe to be some trends with sport governing bodies reducing "punishments" for positive tests.

Podcast Episode #37: Jessica Teal and Professional Middle Distance Running
Friday Dec 20, 2019
Friday Dec 20, 2019
In this episode, I catch up with my cousin, Jessica Teal. Jessica is professional runner for Saucony Freedom Track Club, in Boston, MA. She specialized in the 400m Hurdles in high school and college, but now she's crushing the two-lap tango (800m). We discuss her path to the pro's, the "musical" adventure that led her there, and going "all in" when it counts. If you are looking for some inspiration to go after something that other have said is "too late," this episode is for you!

In this episode, I talk with an old running buddy, Dr. Justin Herbert. "Herb" and I grew up not too far from each other, and ended up on the same Junior Olympic cross country team, and University cross country and track team. He is currently a collegiate cross country and track and field coach at Oral Roberts University. We discuss his PhD dissertation on student-athlete leadership development, how to keep things simple to run faster, and the life-long impact of good coaching.

Podcast Episode #35: Calories vs. Hormones
Friday Dec 06, 2019
Friday Dec 06, 2019
In this episode, I discuss the Calories vs. Hormones dichotomy. Calories serve as the best measurement tool for how much energy food contains, but your hormones dictate your metabolic rate. Is it a false dichotomy, or is one perspective better than the other. Should you be tracking your Calories or focusing exclusively on eating to elicit specific hormonal and metabolic effects? Or is there a way to split the difference and get the best of both worlds?
