In this episode, I sit down with my good friend, Andy Rohrbacher. Andy is an extremely competitive, nationally ranked, amateur triathlete. We discuss his journey from obesity and depression to breaking out of his comfort zone and setting (and then completing) harder and harder goals. Everyone can learn from his daily commitment to show up and get just a little bit better by turning weaknesses into strengths. By the way...he broke his neck last year, and he hasn't let that stop him!
When Andy isn't training, he is a business and organizational development consultant, a member of the Board of Managers at the White Rock YMCA, a volunteer and fundraiser for social causes and charities, and an avid traveler.

In this episode, I visit with Coach Monte Sparkman, M.Ed, CSCS, USAW, USATF. Coach Sparkman is the Director of Athletic Performance at Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. We talk about his personal philosophy of training for competitive power lifting (he has a 1000 lb squat!), his coaching philosophy of training youth athletes, and where the two overlap. He is passionate about developing all aspects (physical, emotional, mental, etc.) of the kids and coaches he works with, and is not content with the status quo. Due to this, he is an excellent example of how to continue improving, and a great source of experience and information about how to get kids stronger, faster, and more athletic.
In 2018, Coach Sparkman was named the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA) Southwest Region’s Coach of the Year, and has served as the Texas State Director for the NHSSCA.
In addition to coaching, educating, and training his own high school athletes, Coach Sparkman is very active within the Strength and Conditioning and High School Coaching communities to advance the sport performance industry and share experience and best practices.

In this episode, I talk with Hannah Dimmick. The primary topic of the conversation was centered around RED-S, or Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports, which was previously termed "The Female Athlete Triad." RED-S covers what happens when athletes (predominantly female athletes) consume too few Calories in comparison to what they expend, leading to a cascade of outcomes including, but not limited to, changes in menstrual cycle, reductions in bone density, increased risk of injury, chronic fatigue, reductions in athletic performance, and depression.
Hannah earned her undergraduate degree and Master's degree in Exercise Science from the University of Kansas. While there, she competed in cross country and track and field, specializing in the middle distances (800m and 1500m). She is currently pursuing her PhD. in Kinesiology with a specialization in wearable technology from the University of Calgary. She also wanted everyone to know that she can quote almost any episode of Brooklyn 99 and she recently survived a week where the highest temperature was -14F.
