In this episode, Shalaya Kipp joins me to discuss her collegiate and professional running career, as well as some of her research on ground reaction forces in the Steeplechase. We also cover the research she help conduct on the prototype to Nike's Vaporfly 4% and how predictions and calculations on improvements in running economy work themselves out in real life.
Shalaya Kipp is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC in the department of Kinesiology. She studies how exercise influences cardio-respiratory functions and the implications for health and performance. Previously, Shalaya completed her Masters degree in Integrative Physiology at the University of Colorado, Boulder where she studied the biomechanics and energetics of human running. Shalaya is a competitive runner, specializing in the 3000m steeplechase. She has represented the United States on a national level including the World Championships and Olympic Games.
